Paul Gustafson's Bio

Paul Gustafson's photoBefore beginning my professional career in Silicon Valley, I graduated from Iowa State with a BS in Engineering Operations/Journalism. While I didn’t realize it then, my destiny was to surf each leading edge wave of technological innovation, work closely with the best and brightest engineers on the planet, and help them explain their ideas to others.

I began at Teknowledge, an AI start-up in Palo Alto where Denny Brown hired me out of college. Other highlights include Adobe, where I was a PostScript evangelist during the desktop publishing boom, General Magic, the company who built the first smartphone, Xerox PARC, the legendary advanced technology birthplace, Virtus, an early 3D graphics and video game pioneer, and other venture-backed startups.

Prior to joining Denny at Expert Support in 2017, I was an Expert Support client at an award-winning digital content marketing firm, TDA Group. I led TDA’s content marketing, strategy and consulting engagements for over a decade. During that era, TDA won multiple awards for ambitious and demanding B2B tech clients like IBM, Intel, Dell, VMware, SAP, and many others.

Every day, our world becomes more complex and it’s clear that we aren’t going back to simpler times. The problems we collectively face are also increasingly complicated, and solutions to these problems are often misunderstood, so they aren’t adopted. Those who help others understand complex solutions have become vital to our quality of life.

My goal at Expert Support is to be one of those helpers, and to work with other like-minded professional communicators. Our continual efforts to strive for technical communication excellence have the long-term potential to benefit everyone for generations.

Outside of work, I love keeping up with my grown-up kids in Arizona (my daughter Madelaine and her spouse Derek, and my son, Lars), the adventure of scuba diving in warm waters, the challenge of golf, and enjoying Bay Area sporting events, live music, art, fine dining, and nightlife.
